Divorce is often one of the most difficult emotional events in a person’s life and of course, as hard as it is to end this chapter, many are eager to move on to the next. One of the most frequently asked questions at the beginning of every divorce is in regards to how long it will take. Many people fear that their divorce will be long and grueling because they have heard of people having terrible experiences. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. Every couple is different so it is no surprise that some divorces take longer than others.
Some divorces take very little time, especially when they are able to stay out of the courtroom. This is often the case when either the couple has very few contested issues to resolve or they are able to resolve them through mediation in a very efficient manner. Of course, some couples are going to have a nearly impossible time trying to resolve the contested issues in their divorce. Therefore, they may have to rely on the court to make these decisions for them. This process will take much longer because the couple will have to wait for court dates to be assigned instead of scheduling mediation sessions whenever it works best for them.
